All to many times reviewers are faced with resumes and cover letters that just are to ordinary to notice. There are a lot of simple ways to present yourself in a cover letter that are bound to catch the attention of any reviewer.

Here are the 6 best tips on how to write a resume cover letter that will stand out from the rest. Follow these tips and you are almost guaranteed an interview.

Tips - How to write a resume cover letter

#1 Stick to the facts! Do not see the cover letter as an autobiography. It should be brief and demonstrate that you meet or exceed the requirements listed in the job description.

#2 Avoid negatives! The cover letter is not the place to explain why you left a former employer. These issues are best addressed during an interview.

#3 Try to avoid a salary history. Include this only if it is stated in the job ad that resumes without a salary history will not be considered.

#4 Focus on the layout of your letter. Make sure it is easy on the eyes and that it has a logical progression. Avoid long paragraphs and use bold sub headlines to make it easy to scan the letter. Think of the cover letter as an introduction to yourself and not a summary of your resume.

#5 Make your letter unique and make it stand out. Do not use cliches like "I have the ability to think

outside the box!" The reviewer read resumes and cover letters for a living and has seen it all before. Write something different and do not be afraid to stand out!

#6 Address the letter to a specific person. If one is not indicated in the job ad, search the company web site for names and individuals to address your letter to.
